Under-fire Dave Cormack has offered a mammoth Aberdeen apology to supporters as he ended up on the verge of tears after axing Jim Goodwin.
The 64-year-old fronted up to the assembled media after his side's 6-0 disaster against Hibs – days after the Irishman earned an unlikely stay of execution following their humiliating loss to Darvel. And the Hibernian beating led to Goodwin instantly leaving before Cormack faced the press and addressed the multiple issues the club faces during another disastrous campaign.
And he revealed he had an emotional embrace with the departing boss after the latest sorry loss. Speaking to BBC, he said: "I'm kind of at a loss for words, I saw our fans there again today and supporting the team, singing the whole game. I've been a fan my whole life and like them I am embarrassed, humiliated and shocked by the results. Jim is a good man, he has given everything here and I met him after the game and he gave me a hug and he said, 'I know, Dave, it's simply not good enough'.
"We part company, for obvious reasons, since coming back from the World Cup, our away form has been abysmal, our home form has been pretty decent. I think some of the players also need to take responsibility. I have been going for 60 years, I take responsibility. I am the chairman and I have overseen on the football side. It's no consolation for fans to here how well things have gone off the field, commercially, fan engagement.
"They deserve better that I am absolutely determined to get this right. We will double down with the board, our vision and strategy. The most important thing in football is to make sure you have the right people in place to execute. Since we came back from the World Cup it's been challenging. I felt quite humiliated and I am sorry - they were brilliant today. I am quite emotional about the club, it means everything to me. I am rightly, as chairman, getting the pelters but I am determined to get it right."
