Aberdeen are refusing to be rushed into appointing Jim Goodwin’s successor. The Dons bulleted Goodwin after the dismal 6-0 weekend defeat to Hibs and are now on the hunt for the club’s 24th manager.
Chairman Dave Cormack and members of the board and footballing operation met on Sunday to begin to collate applicants and the names of other possible candidates. Former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is among those names to have excited the Red Army and Record Sport confirmed he would be willing to listen to what the Dons have to say. The Aberdeen board has put Barry Robson in interim charge with Scott Anderson and have also brought in the highly-experienced Steve Agnew.
The short-term appointment of Agnew was Robson’s idea, having previously worked with him at Middlesbrough. The Pittodrie hierarchy feel Agnew will give Robson some much-needed experience alongside him in the short-term. The trio took training yesterday as they finalised the preparations for tomorrow’s clash at home to St Mirren.
Aberdeen director of football Steven Gunn has already been inundated with applications for their vacant managerial position. That includes Scottish, English and overseas applicants.
The Pittodrie board are determined to get things right after unsuccessful stints with Stephen Glass and Goodwin. The board believe Robson and his team can rally the team in the short-term as the fight to get back into the top six and the European fight.
Robson is also likely to be in charge for the weekend Pittodrie clash with Motherwell. The Dons then have another two weeks before their next game so that will buy the Dons board more time.
