Dave Canales might get along pretty well with Chris Tabor.
Just hours before going into his chat with the Carolina Panthers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator was asked about his head-coaching interview on Thursday. In echoing Tabor’s past sentiments about the importance of film, Canales stated the following:
“Your film is your résumé. So the biggest thing I can do for any opportunities is to really focus on having another week like last week—where we were in rhythm, the mix of the run and the pass, everything coming together. And that was just a full focus on the opponent.”
Well, that opponent got quite the thrashing from Canales and crew. The Buccaneers routed the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, 32-9, in their Wild Card Round matchup this past Monday.
The outing saw Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield pass for 337 yards and three touchdowns. Canales’ offense also ran for 119 yards on 29 attempts.
And now, after he’s done talking to the Panthers, the focus is back on the next opponent—the Detroit Lions.
“We got our hands full this week with a fantastic team,” he added. “Goin’ up to a great place. The fans are all fired up there, I’m sure. I really just gotta be locked in on that.
“And, again, this is something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time. And so, I have some stuff prepared that I’ve had for a couple of years.”
