The Bears made the hiring of Matt Eberflus as head coach official on Thursday, and he’s wasting no time in staring to assemble his coaching staff.
Eberflus appears to have his first hire in Colts linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi, who ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports is expected to join the Bears coaching staff.
Borgonzi worked under Eberflus in Indianapolis, and he was expected to follow Eberflus to Chicago. The question is whether he’ll be Eberflus’ new defensive coordinator.
Borgonzi has been instrumental in the success of Colts linebacker Darius Leonard, who has established himself as one of the best linebackers in the NFL. The Bears also happen to have a top linebacker on their roster in Roquan Smith, who would benefit greatly from the influence of both Eberflus and Borgonzi.

There are other rumblings around Eberflus’ potential coaching staff. Eberflus is expected to target the Shanahan tree for offensive coordinator, which is going to be his most important hire.
But he’s also zeroing in on Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia as his new special teams coordinator, assuming he doesn’t get the Las Vegas job. But with Josh McDaniels the favorite to land the job, it sounds like Bisaccia could be headed elsewhere, perhaps Chicago.
