Daunting Casemiro and Raphael Varane record Newcastle United will hope to break in Carabao Cup Final

Newcastle United will have to find a way to break Casemiro and Raphael Varane's daunting cup final records when they take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final. Data compiled by Genting Casino shows the Red Devils duo have won 90.91 per cent of the finals they've featured in, which doesn't bode well for the Magpies.

The former Real Madrid duo have won just about all there is to win in the professional game in Spain, appearing in 11 major finals during their trophy-laden spell in Spain - losing just one of them. Varane has a spotless domestic cup final record, winning all of the finals he's featured in with club, losing just two of the 14 finals he's appeared in, both penalty shootout defeats with France.

Casemiro's record is even more impressive, having lost just two finals from 17 he has played in. The Brazilian tasted defeat in the 2018 Super Cup final and the 2021 Copa America final, giving him a total win record of 88.24 per cent.

The combative midfielder has five Champions League winners medals, despite only featuring in four finals.

The form book and the history book suggest the balance of the tie is slightly favouring the Red Devils, but Eddie Howe's side will be out write their own piece of history. Newcastle will be backed by 32,761 supporters in the West End of Wembley, with many more travelling down for the occasion.

The Toon have already come up against both Casemiro and Varane earlier this season, with the Magpies earning a point on the road at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have shown huge signs of improvement since the winter break however, losing just once and winning seven out of ten Premier League fixtures.

Casemiro has been a revelation since arriving from Real Madrid, filling the defensive midfielder void the club has lacked in recent years. The 31-year-old has a tackle-success rate of 77 per cent, a pass-completion rate of 79 per cent, and he's chipped-in with 2 goals and three assists.

Erik ten Hag's side complete on average 3.48 high regains per game, with Casemiro at the heart of their style of play. Manchester United complete an average of 3.57 direct attacks per-game under the Dutch head coach and have scored more goals from quick breaks (6) than any other Premier League side.
