The death of the Queen yesterday (Thursday September 8, 2022) made Charles automatically King. The next step towards him fulfilling his role is when he is officially proclaimed monarch at an historic Accession Council on Saturday September 10, 2022.

What is the Accession Council?

The Accession Council is a ceremonial body which facilitates the formal accession of a successor to the throne, following the death of a monarch.
