A date has been set for a hearing that could determine the future of a city centre cocktail bar.
Liverpool Council ’s licensing and sub-committee will meet on Thursday 12th May to review the premises licence at On Point on Victoria Street. Complaints have been made about the venue by a councillor on behalf of residents and as a result, the committee will consider if it is still appropriate for the site to sell alcohol.
According to a notice of application from the local authority, the review has been launched “related to the licensing objectives of the prevention of public nuisance.” On Point describes itself on social media as Liverpool’s first fully interactive cocktail bar. The city centre venue opens from 4pm to 11.45pm on Thursdays, 4pm to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4pm to midnight on Sunday.

On Point currently has a premises licence that permits live music performances and the playing of recorded music during its opening hours. The licence was awarded by Liverpool Council in May 2020.
The application of the permit has been made by central ward councillor Nick Small. Despite applying for the review, Cllr Small said he wanted the venue to do well.
He previously told the ECHO: "I've had a number of complaints from different residents living above the premises about noise and music being persistently played outside permitted hours in breach of the premises licence. This has been reported to the premises licence holder and Environmental Health, but the problems continue.
“I hope the premises will take this seriously, sort this out and be better neighbours. It's a great venue and I want it to do well."
A spokesperson for On Point told the ECHO earlier this month that the issues would be resolved quickly. The spokesperson said: “We are aware of the complaint and the review but we have the support of the wider community.
“Currently we have singers and karaoke performers at the venue who finish at 10.45pm and leave by 11pm. We also have CCTV footage of them leaving the premises at this time.
“We’re confident that this will be sorted as quickly as possible and we’ll deal with it as it comes.” The committee will meet at 10am on 12th May to deliver their review.
