Dassault service hones in on EV industry, smart cities

Mr Gerondeau believes Dassault's technology can help Thailand develop its EV industry as well as smart city projects.

Dassault Systèmes, a France-based company developing 3D product design software, has launched a "3DEXPERIENCE" service to help companies plan their businesses related to electric vehicle (EV) and smart city development.

3DEXPERIENCE will help entrepreneurs design and plan the manufacturing of products and deal with other engineering issues in the production process.

"Thailand is a high potential market for EVs and new S-curve industries. The company wants to seek a new business opportunity in the country," said Guillaume Gerondeau, Dassault's vice-president for transportation and mobility industry in Asia.

The National EV Policy Committee announced in 2021 that it wanted EVs to constitute 50% of locally made vehicles by 2030, part of an ambitious plan to make Thailand a regional EV hub.

Last year, the cabinet approved a package of incentives including tax cuts and subsidies to promote EV consumption and production between 2022-2023.

The subsidies range from 70,000 baht to 150,000 baht depending on the type and model of vehicle, while there are lower excise tax and import duties on completely knocked-down and completely built-up units.

Mr Gerondeau said Dassault's technology can help Thailand develop its EV industry as well as smart city projects.

Smart cities focus on the wise use of energy, notably renewable energy, and the development of EV infrastructure, including EV charging stations.

"Dassault can help customers do engineering designs for their EV businesses, reduce costs in the long term and increase production efficiency," said Mr Gerondeau.

Ng Aik Hock, Dassault's director of cities and public services in Asia Pacific South, said around 85% of EV developers around the world use 3DEXPERIENCE.

The company has a total of 290,000 customers and 25 million users across 11 industries worldwide. Customers include startups and governments, as well as individual users.
