Newcastle United 'target' Darwin Nunez sent the Magpies a clear transfer message after an impressive performance against Liverpool in the Champions League. The Benfica forward scored the only goal of the game for the Portuguese side as they were beaten 3-1 by Jurgen Klopp's side.
The Uruguayan has now scored five Champions League goals this season, two against Barcelona, one against Bayern Munich, Ajax and Liverpool. The Magpies were linked with a move for the Benfica youngster in January but a move to Tyneside did not come to fruition.
Premier League scouts were reportedly in attendance to watch the 22-year-old and Newcastle could face a battle on their hands if they are to sign the forward. In 35 games this season, Núñez has scored 28 goals, with West Ham also keen on his signature.

No player under the age of 23, playing in a top-flight across Europe football has scored more goals than the Uruguayan this season. Newcastle would not be able to give Núñez the European football that is on offer elsewhere, but would be able to provide a substantial financial package that could tempt him to Tyneside.
If the Magpies are to pursue Núñez, they will need to act quickly with the youngster attracting a whole host of attention across Europe.
