Darwin Nunez reveals Luis Suarez plan after £85m Liverpool transfer sealed

Darwin Nunez is set to seek advice from compatriot Luis Suarez after sealing his high-profile transfer to Liverpool.

Nunez signed a six-year contract at Anfield on Tuesday having completed a big-money move from Benfica that could eventually be worth as much as £85million.

The 22-year-old arrives on Merseyside as a likely replacement for Sadio Mane, who looks poised to join Bayern Munich this summer.

Nunez will be tasked with replicating Luis Diaz’s success following a similar move from Porto to Liverpool in January and thriving alongside Mo Salah, whose own future remains subject to significant question as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

Although Jurgen Klopp insists that his club-record signing remains a work in progess, he will surely be expected to compete in the scoring charts with a certain Erling Haaland, whose arrival at Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in a £51.2m deal promises to add a different dimension to the Premier League title race.

In his first interview with Liverpool’s offiial website, Nunez insisted he has yet to speak to Liverpool great Suarez about what to expect at Anfield, but plans to catch up with his fellow Uruguayan and international team-mate very soon for support and guidance.

“I've not had a chance to be in touch with him just yet,” he said. “But I'm sure when everything comes out on social media, I'll give him a call or I'll send him a photo that I've taken where he's there in the background in a picture.

“I'll send that to him and we'll have a bit of a chat and I'll ask him lots of questions so he can offer his support and help because he's a real reference to me because he's a Uruguayan footballer who made history at Liverpool. But, for sure, I'll get the opportunity soon to call him and have a chat with him.”

The oft-controversial Suarez is among the most talented players of the modern era at Liverpool, having scored 82 goals in 133 appearances for the club before leaving for Barcelona in 2014.
