Darwin Nunez red card: What games Liverpool striker will now miss

Darwin Nunez will miss Liverpool's next three Premier League matches after his first start at Anfield ended in an early shower after being shown a red card in the second half.

The Uruguayan striker was frustrated after missing a couple of chances with Liverpool trailing Crystal Palace and Joachim Andersen subjected the £85 million man to some rough treatment on his first Premier League start. After being shoved in the back by the defender, Nunez retaliated by headbutting Andersen and was immediately shown a red card.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp faces a headache with his lack of attacking options with Diogo Jota currently missing with a hamstring injury while Roberto Firmino was absent from the squad against Palace as an injury precaution.

Nunez will miss Liverpool's next match against bitter rivals Manchester United next Monday at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen whether Firmino will be fit to play down the middle for the Reds.

The 23-year-old will then the next two home matches in the league as newly-promoted Bournemouth visit Anfield on Saturday, August 27 before Eddie Howe's Newcastle side take on the Reds.

Violent conduct charges can be increased to four games or more but the striker is certain to serve at least a three-match ban after the incident.
