Darwin Nunez leaves Liverpool fans all saying same thing after goal against Man City

Liverpool fans have taken to social media to react to Darwin Nunez's impressive second-half cameo against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday afternoon.

The 23-year-old, who made the move to Anfield for an initial £64m earlier this summer, scored just moments before the full-time as he was well-placed to nod home Andy Robertson's knockdown. Trent Alexander-Arnold had opened the scoring for the Reds in the first half with a wonderful whipped effort into the far corner before Mohamed Salah restored their lead after Julian Alvarez had drawn Pep Guardiola's men level shortly after the interval.

Despite only playing 31 minutes at the King Power, it was quite the impact from the mega-money signing as he got his first run out on English soil in front of Liverpool supporters, whetting their appetite for what's to come from him ahead of his first season in English football.

Unlike Erling Haaland, who also made a big-money move to the Premier League this summer, Liverpool's latest Uruguayan export started this afternoon's contest on the bench as Roberto Firmino was given the nod by manager Jurgen Klopp.

However, he was introduced with half-an-hour remaining and caught the eye of those in attendance as he offered the Reds a new dimension in attack as his willingness to run in behind the Manchester City defence caused problems for Ruben Dias and Co.

It was his header, which was blocked by the hand of Dias, that handed Salah the chance to restore the lead from the spot late in the second half as Craig Pawson awarded a penalty.

And deep into additional time he grabbed his maiden goal for the Reds and settled the contest with a poacher's finish from close range, sparking a huge reaction on social media from supporters after he was lambasted for his performance against Manchester United and Crystal Palace during the club's pre-season tour of the Far East.

Liverpool get their Premier League campaign underway next Saturday lunchtime against newly-promoted Fulham and it's fair to say Klopp will have a positive selection headache ahead of the fixture as Nunez's dominating display will surely have boosted his chances of leading the line at Craven Cottage next week.

In just 24 hours' time, the Reds will play their final pre-season friendly over the summer as they host French side Strasbourg at Anfield and it would be no surprise to see the former Benfica gain further match sharpness with the new season looming.
