Darwin Nunez has put elite clubs from across Europe on red alert amid suggestions Manchester United could look to target him during the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old has scored 28 goals this season and was also on target for Benfica against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
A product of the Penarol system in his native Uruguay, the highly-rated forward joined Benfica from UD Almeria in 2020 and has netted 42 times for the Portuguese giants in 79 matches across all competitions. Speculation over his future is at fever pitch as attentions turn to next season.
Aside from United, other clubs reported to be interested include top-four rivals Arsenal and Tottenham - and West Ham had a big-money bid for him rejected on deadline day this January. That came in at €45million.

Braced for further approaches moving forward, Benfica do have the eight-cap international tied down under contract until 2025. However, taking to social media, Nunez has outlines his plans to change agents - putting United and the other potential suitors on red alert.
Currently represented by Equipo TMA - the same agent as United starlet Facundo Pellistri - Nunez is set to change. A new representative with strong links to super agent Jorge Mendes and the famed Gestifute agency is reported to be his chosen path.
Of course, the Portuguese represents United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and a host of other big names.
In a translated message posted on social media platform Twitter, Nunez said: "I want to clarify that I will not renew my contract with representative Edgardo Lasalvia. I also want to clarify that neither my family - nor I - have received any threats and we are fine."
