Darwin Nunez instruction, surprise goalscorer and other things spotted in Liverpool training

Liverpool are busy preparing for their next match in the Premier League as they look to get their first win of the campaign.

The Reds are currently without a victory in the Premier League this term, having picked up just two points from their opening three league fixtures. Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in their last outing, as they now prepare to face Bournemouth.

Saturday’s clash at Anfield will still see Liverpool deal with a number of injury issues. Klopp will be without a host of key players for the visit of the Cherries, but despite this the squad have still been hard at work in training. The club have released a video showing some highlights of their latest training session from Thursday. Here is a look at some of the things we spotted from the clip.

Darwin finishes

Despite not being available for selection, Darwin Nunez is still working hard in training. The striker is serving a three-game ban for his red card against Crystal Palace, with two matches left on his suspension.

Even though he’s available, Nunez has been training with the rest of the squad. One clip in particular showed the ability the summer signing could bring to the squad.

While going through a heading drill, Nunez got on the end of a cross from Fabinho and headed his effort at the goalkeeper. Even though the effort was saved, a coach off-camera shouted ‘rebound’ and Nunez was sharp enough to get onto the ball and finish into the net, which impressed the coaches.

Alisson skill

One player who is key to Liverpool’s success this season is Alisson Becker. Widely regarded as the best in the world, the goalkeeper was in action again during training to show off his skills.

While going through a shooting drill, Virgil van Dijk could be seen lofting a ball up to Alisson either intended for him to catch or to hit the crossbar. Instead, the ball reached Alisson and he showed off a piece of skill.

As the ball reached the Brazilian, instead of catching it Alisson decided to perform a reverse bicycle kick. Given the lack of reaction from everyone nearby, this could be a piece of skill that Alisson performs on a regular basis.

Defender shines in front of goal

The video mainly consisted of various shooting drills, with every player getting involved. As well as the strikers and forwards, plenty of defenders were also in action.

One player who caught the eye was Joe Gomez. Given the centre-back is yet to score his first professional goal, let alone his first for Liverpool, his finishing certainly got plenty of attention.

While the clip would have only shown selected moments from the training session, pretty much all of the times when Gomez’s turn to shoot saw him find the back of the net. In the drill, he took part in both heading, volley and one-touch finishes.

Andy Robertson dedication

If you were to pick a player who shows the most dedication to the cause out of the whole squad, Andy Robertson would likely be near the top of most people’s lists. In the latest training session, he showed his commitment yet again.

While the rest of the squad was taking part in various training drills, Robertson could be seen doing some push-ups. It's unclear as to whether this was his own decision or as a result of a forfeit as part of the training session.
