Darwin Nunez injury doubt as Jurgen Klopp confirms two Liverpool returns and Roberto Firmino long absence explained

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Darwin Nunez remains a doubt for Liverpool's trip to Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

The Uruguayan has been absent from training for most of the week, with Anfield insiders confirming that Nunez had suffered a minor injury and was likely to miss Liverpool's trip to the South Coast as a result.

And speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's game, Klopp offered an injury update on his £64m striker.

"If he cannot train today, then yes, that will rule him out," he told reporters. "We are waiting for information. It's not a major one but it still kept him out of training. We have to wait for that."

Meanwhile, Klopp confirmed that James Milner and Stefan Bajcetic are available again, but Roberto Firmino remains sidelined with the Brazilian not yet close to a return to training.

"Milly did big parts of training yesterday," he said. "He will be back in normal training today. Stefan will be back in training today. He was out, got a knock on the hip bone. Quite uncomfortable but he will be back as well.

"Bobby not. Still a little bit (to go). At first it was a little injury. Estimated 10 days, two weeks. Did the normal rehab stuff. All experts told us what we can do. Then Bobby felt something again. That kept him out for longer. I don't know when he will be back. He's not close to team training."

With Firmino, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota still sidelined, his absence leaves Mohamed Salah and new signing Cody Gakpo as the Reds' only available senior forwards.
