Darwin Nunez Brighton doubt as Liverpool midfield opportunity emerges

It's time for your Liverpool FC evening headlines on Thursday, January 12.

Darwin Nunez hands Liverpool injury scare as reason for training absence confirmed

Darwin Nunez is a doubt for Liverpool to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday after the striker wasn’t pictured in training on Thursday.

The Uruguayan scored his 10th goal of the season for the Reds in last weekend’s FA Cup draw with Wolves. However, the ECHO understands he has missed training for most of the week and is a doubt for the trip to the South Coast as a result.

While the unspecified injury is believed to only be minor, it has resulted in Liverpool having to prepare for the trip to the Amex Stadium without the Uruguayan. January signing Cody Gakpo is poised for a Premier League debut in his absence.

The Reds are hardly going to be breaking their transfer record this month if the desired target is not currently for sale. However, they could still find a way to strengthen for a more meagre fee if the right player became available.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be one such player. Out of contract in 2024, reports in Italy claim Lazio have grown frustrated over the lack of movement over a new contract, with the Serbian so far refusing to agree a renewal, and would be willing to let him leave as a result.
