A number of players have stood out for the Los Angeles Lakers so far this exhibition season. D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Taurean Prince and Gabe Vincent have impressed while shooting very efficiently, especially from 3-point range.
But arguably the most impressive Laker in the team’s five exhibition games has been Anthony Davis. He has looked active, engaged and motivated on both ends of the floor, and he looks primed to build on what was arguably a career year last season.
In 19 minutes on Sunday versus the Milwaukee Bucks, he had 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocked shots. Head coach Darvin Ham gave Davis a huge compliment, calling him “the heart and soul” of the team.
Darvin Ham on Anthony Davis heading into the season: “I see a level of focus that’s been infectious. He’s been phenomenal. He’s the heart and soul of our team.”

While LeBron James remains the engine of the Lakers, Davis may now be considered their foundation. If he continues to play dominant ball at both ends of the floor, they may end up winning their 18th NBA championship next summer.
