Darvel 1 Aberdeen 0 as Ayrshire side dish out major Scottish Cup upset

Darvel pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Scottish football history by beating Aberdeen tonight.

Jordan Kirkpatrick scored an incredible goal to make history as he put his former boss to the sword.

It was an incredible performance from the East Ayrshire side, with neutrals struggling to figure out which side was in the Premiership and which was non-league.

Aberdeen had a good chance after just four minutes when Duk picked up the ball inside the area, but he fluffed his lines and took a swipe at fresh air.

Ryan Duncan burst past the Darvel defence two minutes later and he had a free shot at goal, but his effort rifled into the side netting.

Vale’s Ross Caldwell tried his luck from distance in the 12th minute, but he fired his shot wide.

Craig Truesdale had another good opportunity for the hosts two minutes later, but his effort from 17 yards was blazed over the crossbar.

The home end erupted after 20 minutes as Kirkpatrick fired home from close range to give the non-league side an incredible 1-0 lead.

Willie Robertson was fed a ball 25 yards out in the 42nd minute and he smashed an effort, but it went high and wide into the visiting support behind the goal.

Ylber Ramadani tried to volley home from a corner dead on half time, but his shot hit the side netting.

Ian McShane rifled an effort from 25 yards towards goal in the 56th minute, Joe Lewis had to be aware to stop the effort.

A minute later Duncan attempted to fire home from close range but Darvel stopper Chris Truesdale pulled off a spectacular save down low to tip it out for a corner.

The Dons looked sure to equalise in the 72nd minute during a goalmouth scramble, but incredibly the hosts blocked it off the line and cleared it.

Chris Truesdale pulled off another world class save in the 77th minute to keep the Dons at bay.

Duk fired a header towards goal in 87th minute, but once against Chris Truesdale was well set and clutched the ball gratefully.
