Darren Moore praised his Sheffield Wednesday players after they beat Sunderland to cause a Carabao Cup upset. The Black Cats lost 2-0 at Hillsborough in the first round of the competition, with the Owls' Dennis Adeniran scoring a spectacular goal in the first half and sub Sylla Sow adding the second ten minutes into the second half to dump Alex Neil's Championship side out of the cup.
That meant League One Wednesday progressed and will now face a home tie against League Two Barnsley. Both Sunderland and Wednesday made changes last night, with Neil naming a completely different starting XI to the one that began the weekend league win at Bristol City, while Moore made eight changes to the side that started Saturday's win at MK Dons.
"We rang the changes and to see the boys come in and perform like that against good opposition was excellent," Moore told YorkshireLive. "We know Sunderland's philosophy in terms of how they go about it.

"I thought the boys got stronger as the game wore on and I thought we started to dominate the game in and out of possession. I knew it was going to be a good workout.
"We knew to get the right result tonight we had to go about our business in the right manner. It was great to see the players step up and work together so well.
"I thought as the game wore on we started to grow more and more into the game."
Former Everton and Fulham man Adeniran was influential for Wednesday, breaking the deadlock with an unstoppable 25-yard strike and then providing the assist for Sow. Moore said: "We are really pleased for him to score a goal and take it in that fashion.
"It was an excellent finish and he showed real quick thinking to put the ball in for Sylla's second goal. Dennis has got good feet on the ball and he moves really well.
"You can see the different dynamics that he brings the team in terms of his ability in midfield and we wanted that this season. It is great to see him back.
"He will have taken a lot of plaudits for his performance tonight and he himself will take a lot from the game."
