Darren Eales’ classy Newcastle Brown Ale touch as he prepares to leave Atlanta United

Incoming Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales paid homage to his future destination at a media scrum for Atlanta United. While an official announcement came a fortnight ago, the former Tottenham Hotspur chief will not take up duties on Tyneside until later this month.

However, that did not stop Eales from serving up a sample of his new club to reporters in Atlanta. The 49-year-old delivered cases of Newcastle Brown Ale for the waiting media ahead of the MLS sides’ clash against Seattle Sounders.

The iconic Geordie beverage is a popular tipple in the United States and famously sponsored the club from 1995-2000. Heineken discontinued “the dog” across the pond in 2019 - despite its popularity - but Chicago's Lagunitas Brewery have taken over the reins.

Replica Toon shirts featuring Newcastle Brown Ale emblazoned on the front are proudly worn by supporters to this day - almost 30 years since they were first released in stores.

Eales was spotted on Tyneside for the Magpies’ pre-season double-header against Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao. His remit will be to run the club on a day-to-day basis and negotiate new contracts with players.
