Darren Bent warns Celtic of Brendan Rodgers history repeating itself as Premier League 'holy grail' could tempt boss

Darren Bent says Brendan Rodgers will hit the Celtic exit button again if the Premier League comes calling - but any offers he has got from clubs in that arena so far have not bettered his Parkhead offer.

The Irishman has completed a blockbuster return to Glasgow on a three-year deal and is set to be backed in the transfer market ahead of a Premiership title defence and tilt at the Champions League group stage. Rodgers was set to be a man in demand after his exit from Leicester City, who he joined from Celtic in 2019 and guided to European football plus an FA Cup triumph.

Tottenham was a club he was tipped for by some pundits before Ange Postecoglou replaced Antonio Conte, setting the path out for his SPFL return. But former Spurs striker Darren Bent insists the English top flight could prove too tempting for Rodgers again. He told talkSPORT: "It's the same as Postecoglou. He has done what he needed to do, he's been offered a massive job at Tottenham and taken it.

"If Brendan Rodgers goes up there, stays three years, two years, does really well and a challenge in the Premier League comes, of course he is going to think about it and probably take it. The Premier League for a lot of managers, it's the holy grail, if you can get a Premier League job it's the be all and end all."

Bent was then asked for why he thought Rodgers was heading back to Celtic Park. Bent added: "Maybe he feels it's unfinished business. I don't know what unfinished business you have when you have won pretty much everything there is to win up there

"But maybe whatever the offers he had in the Premier League, maybe none of them really matched up. I thought he would have been a great fit at Tottenham, the football Spurs fans want to watch, I thought Brendan would have been perfect for that. I think Celtic are getting a good manager. I don't think if you are a Celtic fan you are having too many grumbles about him coming back, because look what he has done before."
