Darren Bent hits the Tottenham fear over Ange Postecoglou as he drops loaded radio claim about Celtic boss

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has queried why Ange Postecoglou would entertain the Spurs job as he believes the Celtic boss is merely an afterthought.

Spurs held talks with prized free agent Julian Nagelsmann before honing on Arne Slot. But the Feyenoord boss chose to remain with the Eredivisie champions and now the 57-year-old Parkhead boss is the top target for a side who finished a lowly eighth following a season to forget. The grey skies come amid Antonio Conte's explosive exit in March and there will be no European football at the Tottenham Stadium next season.

Postecoglou is understood to be the man Levy is sweet on as Spurs plan talks with the Celtic boss after their Scottish Cup Final with Inverness on Saturday. But Bent remains unconvinced and admits he's surprised the Greek-Australian would be keen considering it after several high-profile knockbacks for the north London side. Speaking to talkSPORT, Bent said: "The fact they have now turned to Postecoglou you go 'hmmm, why? And if you are Postecoglou, knowing they been linked with all these managers, why would you want to go there knowing you are sixth or seventh choice?

"For me, I just think it is a risk. there would be options I would have ahead of Postecoglou. I am not trying to diminish anything he's done in Scotland, which is fantastic but, as we have all seen, the Premier League is a different animal. It's a completely different beast."

And co-host Andy Goldstein said: "I see Postecoglou in the same category as Nuno, I see him the same kind of level. If Spurs want to be dining at the top table..."

Before Bent interjected, adding: "Can't even get Nagelsmann, Rodgers or even Potter, they are there, ready to go."
