The Los Angeles Rams have been without their top two running backs in practice for the better part of the last two weeks, giving Jake Funk and Trey Ragas increased opportunities. With each passing day, the level of concern that Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson Jr. might not be ready for Week 1 grew.
Thankfully, Sean McVay said Saturday after the Rams’ loss to the Bengals that Henderson will practice this week. He’s not yet sure when Akers will be able to go full speed, but he’s encouraged that Henderson is back on the field.
“Darrell definitely will (practice),” McVay said. “Darrell was able to run full speed today. We were able to get a workout in on the grass. Cam wasn’t able to do that quite yet, but I’m really excited about getting Darrell back out there for us.”
Henderson is more than capable of handling the bulk of the carries at running back if Akers isn’t 100% before the season opener. McVay still doesn’t sound concerned about Akers’ status for Week 1, but hopefully he’ll be able to practice soon as the Rams gear up for the Bills.
