Dara O'Shea has been ruled out for the rest of the season after he picked up a knee injury during Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to France last Monday.
The West Brom centre-half was replaced in the 77th minute of the Euro 2024 qualifier by Alan Browne.
His Baggies teammate Jayson Molumby has also picked up a knock, his club boss Carlos Corberán confirmed yesterday.
Molomby, who also starred against the World Cup finalists, will be sidelined for a month with a groin problem.
O’Shea tweeted: “Gutted to be missing out on the rest of the season after injuring my knee.
“I will be cheering the boys on, as we look to finish the season as strong as possible. Thank you for all the messages of support so far today!”
Meanwhile, Evan Ferguson has been on the receiving end of yet more plaudits, with his Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi saying the Seagulls were “lucky” to have him.
Teenager Ferguson returned to his club after an international window in which he scored his first senior Ireland goal, in last week’s 3-2 win over Latvia.
Linked with summer bids from a number of top Premier League sides, including Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea, he is set for another outing today against Brentford.
“I think he’s playing very well,” said De Zerbi.
“I told you a lot of times, I am happy with Evan, for his age, for his performances, but I think in my head my focus is on his improvement because he can and he has to improve.
“But he’s a good guy. He learns in a good direction and a good way and it’s lucky for us to have a player like Evan.”
