Dara Ó Briain gave perhaps the strangest autograph of his career while visiting a restaurant in Bristol this week. The Irish comedian was dining in a city eatery on the night he performed at the Bristol Hippodrome, when a fan approached him with the manual for a B&Q toilet seat.
The celebrity obligingly signed the strange paper, writing: “To Graham, this is the greatest thing I have ever signed!” He also drew a speech bubble with “HA HA!” coming out of the open toilet seat, making the porcelain throne appear to laugh.
The funnyman’s tweet picturing the potty publication received almost two thousand likes plus dozens of responses – many wanting to know why the recipient of the autograph, Graham Hood, was carrying a toilet manual, or sharing their own weirdest autograph stories.

These included a Status Quo signature on a CAMRA membership card, kids’ TV icons Dick and Dom signing a toilet roll, Manic Street Preachers autographing a passport and Jimmy Tarbuck’s John Hancock in a Beatrix Potter book.
“Why would someone take toilet seat instructions to a restaurant?” asked Twitter user Tony Tsteer, adding, “I might have to bring some to Liverpool on Saturday now.” Carl Spiby replied: “Presumably they got this out of the product box, they don't just carry around loo seat instructions?”
Graham himself responded to Dara’s tweet – but provided no clues to the curious audience. “Was awesome to meet you,” he wrote, “and you were so gracious to sign it and take photos with the restaurant staff whilst we interrupted you getting your tea”.
He added that he would treasure the autograph, and was currently discussing with his partner where to hang the monikered manual.
