Red Bull Salzburg are interested in making Rangers boss Danny Rohl their new manager.

The Austrian giants are on the hunt for a new man to take the reins and the 37-year-old has emerged as a serious contender, having worked within the Red Bull group before as a coach at RB Leipzig in his German homeland.

Rohl still has his admirers within the group and is in the running to take over at Salzburg, as per The Rangers Review. Initial contact has been made but it is believed Rohl is not pushing for an exit from Ibrox ahead of pre-season training starting next week.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss took over from Russell Martin in October after Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat were believed to have turned down the chance to sit in the hotseat. H brought about an initial uptick but an end-of-season collpase saw Rangers finish third behind Celtic and Hearts.

That led to some pressure from fans but chairman Andrew Cavenagh gave Rohl his full backing.

“Danny is our coach, we think that Danny gives us the best opportunity to win the league next year,” Cavenagh said.

“We think there are two really important things that he needs, one is a pre-season and the most important one is a revamped squad.

“I don't love the word backed, I would say that we recognise that the squad needs significant change, so we intend to do that.

“Where it needs changed it is less around the talent, we have good talented players, what we need to do is look at chemistry, mentality and leadership.

“It is more those nuanced and intangible things that we really are focusing on this summer with the squad.”
