Danny Murphy gives 'joy to watch' verdict amid Jesse Marsch warning

Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy has said that while Leeds United are 'a joy to watch' but warned manager Jesse Marsch over his philosophy.

The Whites found themselves 3-1 down just three minutes after halftime as Rodrigo's opening penalty was made seemingly irrelevant by Marcus Tavernier, Philip Billing and Dominic Solanke goals.

However, a brilliant curling effort from Sam Greenwood helped to pick up the atmosphere inside Elland Road on the hour mark before captain Liam Cooper nodded in the equaliser eight minutes later.

But it was Wilfried Gnonto's dazzling run from deep in his own half that split Bournemouth apart on the counter-attack before slotting a pass through to Crysencio Summerville who fired past Mark Travers to steal all three points.

Speaking on last night's episode of Match of the Day, Murphy admitted that while their style is fun to watch, it can come as a detriment to them sometimes.

"Well there was so much to admire, so much positivity from them, high-tempo football and were great to watch. It was a bit of a rollercoaster but it was fantastic to watch! I do think their philosophy, and the way they play sometimes, can be a negative and Bournemouth did take full advantage of that in the first half.

"They're 3-1 down at home, the manager is being booed but what do they do? They show resilience and carry on with the same mentality like they do whether they're 3-1 up or 3-1 down. It is a joy to watch, this is a brilliant goal from Greenwood but they are going to have some games where they get beat for this style - they got done five at Brentford for example."

Murphy then gave his analysis on the late winner from Summerville, highlighting the urgency of the counter-attack and the mentality it takes to bring the game back.

"Late on in the game, 3-3, they've got back into it and they're not even thinking about taking a point. Defending well in the box and look at them fly out, 'we're gonna win the game'.

"No thought of running into the corner, no thought of a point and they deserved the win today. It was a tremendous win but just to go back to Jesse Marsch, I think he expects them to always be able to have pressure on the ball. You can't think like that and that's why I think in the game sometimes, the players have to take responsibility. Great little celebration in there, Gnonto tripping over!"
