Danny Miller breaks silence after backlash over 'awkward' NTA Stephen Mulhern comment

Danny Miller has spoken out after being accused of an 'awkward' comment towards Stephen Mulhern at the National Television Awards.

The Emmerdale actor got up on stage to collect the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment award after I'm A Celebrity scooped the prize. The reigning King of the Castle accepted the award on behalf of Ant and Dec, who were unable to attend after they tested positive for coronavirus.

But the actor, known for playing Emmerdale's Aaron Dingle, made a comment at Stephen - who was sitting in the audience - during the speech.

Danny said: "Just on behalf of Ant and Dec who unfortunately have Covid so they can't be here tonight, and Stephen Mulhern is in the crowd so not sure why he hasn't accepted the award on behalf of them." The camera quickly locked in on the TV star who pulled a funny face.

Fans following the ceremony on Twitter branded the remark "unnecessary". Lins said: "Um....Stephen Mulhern has nothing to do with I'm a Celebrity, that's why he didn't collect the award!!"

Polly commented: "Not Danny Miller throwing shade at our Stephen". Becky posted: "what was that dig at Stephen Mulhern about? He obviously didn't come and accept the award on their behalf because he's got nothing to do with I'm a Celeb? Seems an unnecessary comment by Danny.."

But Danny has since hit back. Posting a smiling selfie of the pair in the audience at the NTAs all suited and booted, the dad-of-one wrote: "Don't believe everything you read. A good friend and a personal joke @stephenmulhern."
