Danniella Westbrook backs rival soap Emmerdale after EastEnders recasting row

Danniella Westbrook has publicly backed rival soap Emmerdale after her EastEnders casting row.

The star was left fuming after the BBC confirmed that Kim Medcalf would be taking on the character rather than Danniella, who originally played the fiery former lap-dancer, and she even threatened legal action against the BBC.

And now Danniella has publicly backed ITV soap Emmerdale - predicting that EastEnders could end when ITV switch up their schedule and change Emmerdale to 7.30pm, which directly clashes with the usual times of EastEnders.

As Emmerdale aired incredible scenes with serial killer Meena (Paige Sandhu) tonight, Danniella took to Twitter to give her verdict on the storyline, as she predicted the end of EastEnders.

Danniella was on EastEnders for a number of years (BBC)

"Can you imagine when they move emmerdale to 7.30pm how much the ratings on other channels will drop through the floor …. Could be the End for Enders," she wrote on Twitter in an obvious swipe at the BBC soap.

In a string of tweets, she went on to praise the serial killer and storyline, writing: "Meena on @emmerdale is brilliant. This is written so well. Can you even imagine the awards this is gonna win #amazing #emmerdale."

At the time, Danniella wrote a scathing message online about EastEnders' recasting.

"Wishing Kym the best of luck at @BBCEastenders__ yet again this poor woman has to recreate a Samantha Mitchell as close to my last two recent come backs on the square go smash it darling..x oh but not to @bbceastenders my legal team will be in touch," she wrote at the time, clearly fuming with the BBC soap for their decision.

In a second scathing tweet, she added: "Bet you all can’t wait for my new book now can ya ….. oh it’s gonna go way back to the things I’ve never ever told #beafraidpeople #itsallgood."

Kim played Sam between 2002 and 2005 whilst Danniella played Sam before then, as well as returning to Albert Square again in 2009 and for a second time in 2016.

In the ITV schedule shake up, Emmerdale will now air at a consistent 7.30pm slot every weekday whilst Coronation Street will now broadcast hour-long episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
