Danielle Scott claims gold for Australia in FIS World Cup aerials at Deer Valley

Australia's stunning season on snow has continued in the USA, as Danielle Scott claimed yet another gold medal on the FIS World Cup circuit at Deer Valley.

Scott landed the highest-scoring jump of her stellar career, landing a lay-full-full double twisting triple back somersault to score 115.20 points and claim a dominant victory.

"I am lost for words actually, I am so pumped," Scott told the FIS.

"Everything went to plan, and to finally be doing triples again, it just feels so awesome, and I can't wait for more girls to be doing them."

The 32-year-old beat Canadian Marion Thenault into silver after she scored 97.99, with China's Olympic finallist Fanyu Kong third with 94.11.

Scott's teammate Laura Peel qualified for the final in second place, but could not execute her lay-full-full triple back somersault, to end in eighth spot.

The victory is Scott's second on the World Cup circuit this season, following her victory in the Ruka World Cup opener in December, and seventh in her career.

Scott's gold medal is Australia's third of the Deer Valley event, after Matt Graham and Jakara Anthony claimed gold medals in the moguls competition the previous day.

The first place puts Scott back in top spot in the overall World Cup rankings with two events remaining.

Before that, attention turns to Georgia and the World Championships on February 21/22.

"I am looking forward to the World Championships," Scott said.

"[I] got to keep building, I have a bit more degree of difficulty in the bag, and have to keep doing jumps like this."

Scott has twice finished on the podium at the World Championships, finishing second in Spain in 2017 and third in Norway in 2013.

In Georgia, Scott will attempt to become the fifth Australian woman to claim the world championship title, after Kirstie Marshall (1997), Jacqui Cooper (1999), Alisa Camplin (2003) and Peel (2015 and 2021).
