Danielle Hunter could fill Browns need on the edge

While the Deshaun Watson talk will surround the Cleveland Browns for a significant amount of time, as it should both on and off the field, the NFL offseason carries on. While the Browns hope they have filled their need for a franchise quarterback, and a backup for when Watson is likely suspended, there are still moves that need to be made.

Baker Mayfield is still on the team and taking up around $18 million in salary-cap space. We have no idea where he will end up in the game of QB musical chairs.

While the team has added a receiver, interior defensive lineman and an edge player, along with a kick returner, their needs list from before the start of the league year is still quite accurate.

Danielle Hunter is a player that could step in as the team’s other starting defensive end if Jadeveon Clowney doesn’t return. The Minnesota Vikings have some salary cap needs and GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has familiarity with Andrew Berry having just left Cleveland’s front office.

The Browns are rumored to have interest in trading for Hunter:

As noted earlier, the Browns don’t have their first-round pick or their highest fourth-round pick after the Watson trade was made official.

Hunter played in just seven games in 2021 before being injured but had six sacks. In both 2018 and 2019, Hunter had 14.5 sacks and has totaled 60.5 in his six seasons in Minnesota.

With two years left on his contract, Hunter could be looking for a new deal before turning 30 years old. The structure of his contract could make it difficult for the Vikings to make a deal but, with Berry and Adofo-Mensah, anything is possible.
