Daniel Sturridge has become subject of a series of 'memes' on social media in Spain, with the latest stunt involving the 33-year-old's name appearing on the back of a Leganes shirt.
The flurry of online activity involving Sturridge was sparked by the former Liverpool striker being named in a new song ''Brixton' by Madrid based rapper Midas Alonso. The new song involves a mix of sports references, but it's Sturridge's name which has lit up social media.
LaLiga 2 club Leganes made a post to their social media channels, with a picture of their shirt bearing the name of the former Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea striker. The caption to the post was: "Ojo que igual ha aparecido...", This translates as: "Note that the same has appeared..."

The lyric in the song which is being referenced is: “Rashford pin at Stamford Bridge, where’s Sturridge, eh? (Where’s Sturridge?) Where’s Sturridge? (Say where’s Sturridge.)". As a result, the line 'Where's Sturridge' has begun trending in Spain and Leganes could not resist joining in on the fun.
The meme has gained further traction with Shakira's latest song having a video which includes the Colombian performing a move similar to the dance Sturridge performed when scoring during his Liverpool days.
Sturridge has not appeared professionally since leaving Australian side Perth Glory and it remains to be seen what the ex-Reds striker's next move is following just 22 professional appearances since 2019.
