Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe hopes his son won’t follow in his career footsteps.
The 36-year-old British actor shares a two-year-old son with long-term partner Erin Darke, 41.
In a new interview with WSJ Magazine, Radcliffe was asked what he had done mentally to cope with child stardom and develop a successful career as an adult.
“People often talk about me, Rupert [Grint] and Emma [Watson] and the Harry Potter kids in general as being a good example of, ‘See, it can all be fine,’ and yes it can be, but we all worked really hard on ourselves to make it fine,” he responded.
“I honestly wouldn’t want my son to act or to become famous. The thing for me that was the biggest difference-maker was I loved being on set,” he continued.

“I’m also so aware of how tricky it can be — I think it’s very different growing up on a Harry Potter set in the U.K. The [same] crew was mostly there for 10 years, so we were surrounded by a group of people that really cared about us. I was also really lucky with my parents. They had the right balance of being like, This is all really special and really cool, but also there’s some stuff about this that is really weird.”
Radcliffe is currently promoting NBC’s The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins — a comedy series in which he stars alongside Tracy Morgan.
The show debuted on Peacock last week to rave reviews, with critics praising Morgan’s hilarious performance as a disgraced football star who hires an Oscar-winning filmmaker, played by Radcliffe, to produce a documentary that will usher in his comeback.
The unlikely pairing of Morgan and Radcliffe drew particular praise, with Slate’s Sam Adams writing that “Morgan and Radcliffe make a delightful comic duo, their shared anxieties vibrating on wavelengths that amplify one another rather than cancel each other out.”
The ensemble cast includes Living Single actor Erika Alexander, SNL alum Bobby Moynihan, Jalyn Hall, Precious Way and The Office actor Craig Robinson, who appears as Reggie’s nemesis.
The rave reviews poured in on social media as well, with one fan writing on X, “Definitely recommend [The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins] pilot, which is full of Carlock-Fey heaters and immediately the best use of Tracy Morgan since 30 Rock.”
The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins airs Mondays on NBC at 8:30 pm ET. The first three episodes are available to stream now on Peacock.
