Daniel Levy secures Tottenham transfer win as James Maddison and Harry Winks fees revealed

Tottenham and Leicester City are on the verge of completing two transfer deals as both teams plan ahead for the 2023/24 campaign. Amid plenty of speculation over his future this summer, James Maddison will depart the King Power Stadium and seal a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Harry Winks moving in the opposite direction.

football.london understands that Maddison, who is undergoing a medical at Tottenham on Wednesday, will head to the capital and join Ange Postecoglou's side for £40million. Winks, on the other hand, will sign for the Foxes in a £10million deal.

The deals are separate but it effectively sees the Lilywhites land Maddison for £30million due to Winks' move to the Championship side. It is very smart business from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and one that could turn out to be a transfer bargain for the club.

Following previous reports that Leicester would be looking to bring in £60million for Maddison despite the fact he was about to enter the final year of his Tottenham contract, Spurs have managed to strike quite the deal for the England international. The same goes for Winks as he was also on the verge of entering the final year of his contract.

Playing a bit-part role in recent years after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte. the midfielder was not part of Conte's plans 12 months ago and was given the green light to depart. Not able to secure a permanent move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 27-year-old instead headed to Italy to link up with Sampdoria on a season-long loan deal.

Following a frustrating start to life in Genoa with the player not featuring in the first part of the campaign and needing to undergo surgery on an ankle injury, he finally made his Sampdoria debut in January and didn't look back from that point on. Although the 2022/23 campaign was a disastrous one for the Italian side as they were relegated to Serie B, Winks was a rare shining light with some very impressive displays in the heart of midfield.

Going on to make 19 successive starts for Blucerchiati after coming off the bench in his first game away at Empoli, the England international departed Luigi Ferraris Stadium after making 20 appearances in total for Sampdoria. Amid question marks over his next move following his return from Italy, Leicester have moved quickly to tie up a deal for Winks as they look to regain their place in the Premier League at the first time of asking.

With Tottenham managing to solve a problem position and give themselves a major boost in the final third with the acquisition of Maddison, Leicester are also getting a very experienced player who could play a pivotal in their season. Levy and Spurs will undoubtedly feel they are getting the better end of the deal, though, especially with Winks' £10million move in essence meaning Tottenham are signing Maddison for a bargain £30million.
