These shocking images of the results of a single punch attack show the victim with "half his head missing" – as the thug responsible is jailed. Jamie Kelly, 41, from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, was in a coma for weeks after suffering a bleed on the brain.

He lost half his skull and is likely to need specialist care for the rest of his life, York Crown Court was told. Daniel Johnson, 32, felled him with a single punch as they stood at a pedestrian crossing at lunchtime on September 16.

He was jailed yesterday for two years and five months after he admitted grievous bodily harm. Mr Kelly's mother, Brenda, said he had been left "a shell of a man".

Shocking pictures released by Jamie’s family reveal the full extent of his devastating injuries, which have left him bed-bound and dependant on specialist care for life.
