Dangerously cold temperatures continue to grip much of the United States, with arctic air plunging south and settling in. Meteorologists are predicting temperatures well below average for this time of year, posing a significant danger to those living in affected areas. The upper Midwest is experiencing particularly perilous conditions, with overnight low temperatures dropping as low as minus five degrees in Chicago and minus four in Omaha, not accounting for windchill. Even southern cities such as Nashville and Atlanta are not escaping the frigid temperatures, with single digits and teens being recorded.
Daytime highs also remain well below freezing for many cities, including Chicago, Cleveland, and St. Louis. Atlanta, a city accustomed to milder winters, is experiencing temperatures nearly 10 degrees below average. However, there is some hope on the horizon as meteorologists predict a temperature turnaround in the four-day forecast.
