Incidents on public transport in the capital of "dangerous unruly behaviour have become far too commonplace" and "more extreme in nature," a Dublin TD has said.
Fianna Fail's Cormac Devlin launched the party's new public transport survey on Thursday and is asking passengers to give insight on the issue.
The Dun Laoghaire TD said that "The safety and security of passengers and staff must be paramount" and "It is in the public good in every sense that public transport is used, embraced and an attractive option for the travelling public."

He continued: "It needs to be affordable, efficient but also safe. In order to further enhance and strengthen our services across Dublin, Fianna Fail want to hear the views of passengers and commuters on how we can best support safer public transport for all."
The survey asks users to rank different modes of public transport by the safest to least safe and if they have ever reported anti social behaviour on the bus, DART, Luas or taxi. Users are also asked if they would rather a dedicated garda transport unit or private security provided by the public transport companies.
Fianna Fail's Justice spokesperson Jim O'Callaghan said that a dedicated garda transport unit should be formed as Dublin is lacking compared to other cities.
He said on Newstalk on Thursday: "When people use a form of public transport, they have to believe that they're going to be protected when they're using it. We see that in other cities where the public transport is very safe, because there's an awareness there if you get involved in anti-social behaviour... the authorities come down on you like a tonne of bricks.
"Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be the situation in Dublin, particularly, at present".
