An alarming incident occurred on Monday when a dangerous criminal managed to escape from the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The escapee, Caesar Hernandez, 34, was being transported to the courthouse when he made a daring escape by jumping from the transport van.
Hernandez had been serving a sentence of 25 years to life with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, a second-strike offense, as confirmed by the CDCR. Following his escape, the Delano Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, has been actively involved in the search for Hernandez.
Described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 161 pounds, Hernandez was last seen wearing an orange jumpsuit with white thermals. He has black hair and brown eyes, making him easily identifiable. The corrections department has issued a warning that Hernandez is considered dangerous, urging the public to report any sightings or information to local law enforcement immediately or contact Lt. Anthony Sotello, the Incident Commander.
The authorities have emphasized the importance of community vigilance in ensuring public safety. Updates on the search for Hernandez will be provided as more information becomes available. It is worth noting that historically, the CDCR has had a high success rate in apprehending offenders who have escaped from their custody, with 99% of such individuals being captured since 1977.
