Dangerous Flooding In Houston Area Due To Torrential Rainfall

Recent torrential rainfall from Beryl has led to severe flooding in Texas, particularly in the greater Houston area. Over two dozen locations have reported flooding, with widespread rainfall amounts ranging from 4 to 8 inches since Sunday night.

Since daybreak, Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport has received more than 4.5 inches of rain, surpassing its typical July rainfall of 3.77 inches in just a few hours. Similarly, Hobby International Airport in the south side of the city recorded nearly 3.4 inches of rain, exceeding its average July rainfall of 4.60 inches.

Areas like Sugar Land and Friendswood have experienced significant rainfall, with 5 to 8 inches and 6 to 8 inches respectively since midnight. While the rain is gradually moving away from the Houston metro area, the threat of flooding remains as waterways are still swollen.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings for residents to stay cautious and be prepared for potential evacuation orders. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and providing updates to ensure the safety of the community.
