The Armageddon alert system will reportedly be rolled out over the coming weeks.
The emergency communication tool will mean millions of people will hear a loud alarm from their mobile phone as the system is being piloted. The system is designed to warn people if there is "danger to life nearby" - as Sunday Mirror reports.
The government vowed to introduce the long delayed system last October. However, the Armageddon alert has yet to be introduced and Labour said the trial was “long overdue from a Tory government that has been haphazard in preparing for emergencies, leaving a trail of broken promises in their wake.”
