Dancing With The Stars pro dancer Karen Byrne says teaching Shane Byrne how to dance brought out a 'new side' to her

Dancing With The Stars pro dancer Karen Byrne has said she felt like Shane Byrne brought out a “new side” to her.

Karen has been paired up with celebrities for six seasons and won the show once with now boyfriend Jake Carter back on the second series.

But Karen admitted after being so long on the show, she thought she “had her day” – before she met former rugby star Shane.

She said: “Yeah, it’s mad to think that this is the sixth season of the show.. I can’t believe that was six years and then obviously to win in season two.

“Everything feels like yesterday but then it feels like way longer as well. It’s mad because you think after six years, you think ‘right, you’ve had your day’ but I really feel that Shane brought a new side to me.

"I feel like I’ve reinvented myself with Shane as well because I really wanted to put Shane on a pedestal that he deserved because he can dance and the stuff, he can do… there was never a ‘no’.

“He was the best partner to be able to come in with choreography and show him he can do it.”

Karen and Shane became the latest celebrity couple to be booted off the show on Sunday night.

But Shane said he has “no regrets” and thanks his daughters for making him do the show.

“Yes absolutely. I have to thank them, very much so. I’ve a busy enough life as it is. Things are a bit crazy, balancing everything but when they decided that I was doing it, I went along with it and I’m so, so glad I did.

“The lady they hoped I would get to dance with was Karen, which happened so that was fantastic.

“As a life experience, it was right up there. It was absolutely fantastic to share this time with Karen - my namesake - Byrne. It’s been fantastic. It is something that I will cherish.

“Obviously I’m sad to be going home but delighted that we got to this point.

“Absolutely, yeah. It’s like an addiction, you just want to keep going for as long as you can.

“It’s such good fun and the little bit of competitiveness, you can’t help it. You just want to keep going for as long as you can,” he added.
