Dancing With The Stars judge Loraine Barry says she would be 'sad for Ireland' if the show didn't come back next year

Dancing With The Stars judge Loraine Barry said she would be “devastated” if the show didn’t return next year.

The final of the RTE One show airs on Sunday night and questions still remain whether or not it will return to our screens next January.

But head judge Loraine Barry said she would be devastated for the people of Ireland if it didn’t return.

She said: “Personally, I would be devastated but my life goes on, but I would be devastated for the Irish public because I think they absolutely love it. I think the timing of the show is brilliant because it’s after Christmas, the Christmas tree comes down.

"All that festive season is gone and it’s gloomy and then out comes dancing with the stars and everyone has a little bit of joy and laughter.

“And we really help everyone to get through the winter months, spring comes in, we get great reviews, the numbers come in so I would be devastated for Ireland as well.”

Asked if she thinks the format of the show should change, she said: “I always say nothing is constant except change so I’m sure there will be tweaking, that is what production does.

“They brought in the fairy tales, they bring in the dance off, they do different things in order to keep it at that high level so I’m sure after Sunday, they will want a break, they won’t want to hear anything or see glitter and sequins for about a month and then I imagine they will all sit down and have a look at it.

“We don’t know if we are back next year, that’s the big question,” she said.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s final which will see Carl Mullan, Damian McGinty, Suzanne Jackson and Brooke Scullion compete for the glitterball trophy.

She said the trophy is “anyone’s”.

“It’s been an amazing season. I think it’s very visual. We’ve really had a great season.

“I think it’s anyone’s trophy now in this final. Obviously, it is down to the public and they’ve been watching for six years so they have a great idea of how it works.

“So I think they are definitely going to get on their phones and vote this week,” she added.
