Sylvain Longchambon has denied he and Dancing on Ice partner Mollie Gallagher have been put under any pressure to do one of the show's most dangerous moves.
Sylvain , who once partnered his wife Samia on Dancing on Ice, is back on the rink for the latest series of the ITV stapler, teaming up with Mollie, well known to soap fans as coronation Street's Nina and her involvement in the huge hate crime storyline in 2021.
Mollie made a confident start to life on Dancing on Ice with her first to performances but she and Sylvain saw their scores take a slight dip last weekend, when the judges weren't bowled over by their cheerleader themed routine to a Lizzo track. Mollie was told he looked nervous and hesitant during the skate, so it then came as a surprise when, after raising concerns, Christopher Dean then asked her to try the headbanger.
The headbanger is a move that carries a high degree of difficulty and a lot of risk, sees the female skater spun with her head just inches from the ice, with little margin for error. It has resulted in a few hairy moments over the years, including David Seaman dropped professional Pam O'Connor on her head while attempting it back in series one.
Many Dancing on Ice viewers said it was ;'unfair' of Winter Olympic icon Chris to put Mollie on the spot about the headbanger live on air but, speaking to Betway ahead of this week's show, Sylvain has said the couple hadn't been put under any pressure.
He explained: "“There’s not a pressure to perform it, but I know every year they like to have at least one or many couples doing it. I remember when I did the series with my wife, Samia, we did it in week three or four. We’re not pressured, but we’re challenged."
Sylvain added: We’re never really pressured into something that could potentially be dangerous, unless we feel like we can do it. Mollie wanted to do the headbanger from week two, so I think she’s quite happy with the challenge. There’s no pressure and she really wants to do it. It’s interesting that Chris asked us to do it first, so it should be fun.”
