No Dancing on Ice skate-off in major format shake-up for first time in show's history

Dancing on Ice viewers will notice a huge change to the show's format this weekend as the way contestants are eliminated is changing.

It was confirmed on ITV's Good Morning Britain there will be no skate off this weekend. Instead, the contestants receiving the lowest votes when the public vote is combined with the judges' scores will be the one sent home this week.

It's a major change for the popular ITV show, which is fronted by Nottingham skating duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who appear on the judging panel along with Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse, and for the first time in its history there will reportedly be no skate off between the two lowest ranked celebrities.

As a result, the Dancing on Ice celebrities will not be able to rely on being saved by the judges if they find themselves bottom of the leaderboard.

It comes after controversy following complaints over former Love Island contestant Ekin-Su for her outfit choice during her performance to Britney Spears' track Toxic. Holly Willoughby described as the 'sexiest dance ever' Ofcom received over 100 complaints and some viewers branded the performance 'inappropriate' for a show starting at 7pm.

Nottingham's Jayne Torvill appeared on ITV's Loose Women on Friday (January 27) and they discussed her outfit. Jayne admitted she was surprised by the outfit choice, but speaking about the controversy surrounding her costume, Jayne told the Loose Women panel she understood why it was chosen.

And this week, Dancing on Ice contestant Joey Essex addressed reports of a romance with his Dancing On Ice partner, Vanessa Bauer, saying they are “taking it slow”.

The 32-year-old former The Only Way Is Essex reality star was questioned by co-hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls during an appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.

He and Bauer posed for photos together at The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards in November and Essex has often gushed about her after their performances on the show.

Asked whether he wanted to address the reports, he said: “I am open. I will answer.

“The truth is, obviously I am single, Vanessa is single. We go to the ice every day. It is cold. Got to keep each other warm. You know what I’m saying?

“So that’s it really. But, yeah, it’s all good.”
