Thailand face a tough assignment against Turkey in their opening Pool B match of the FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship in the Netherlands on Saturday.

Thailand coach Danai Sriwacharamaytakul aims to steer the team to the second round.

World No.14 Thailand have lost to No.6 Turkey in their last five meetings, including the latest at the 2022 Nations League.

However, Thailand have a high chance of reaching the next round with the top four teams in each of the four first-round groups advancing.

The other teams in Pool B are Poland, Croatia, South Korea and the Dominican Republic.

The 2022 championship is being held in the Netherlands and Poland. The event began yesterday and ends on Oct 15.

After today's game in Arnhem, Thailand will then play their remaining first-round matches in Gdansk in Poland where they will take on the co-hosts on Wednesday.

Thailand are at full strength as they welcome back Thatdao Nuekjang from a long-term injury. But she is not likely to start against Turkey.

The Thais are led by captain Pornpun Guedpard, Chatchu-On Moksri, Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Pimpichaya Kokram who have played well this year.

This year, Thailand won the SEA Games, finished eighth in the Nations League, were third in the AVC Cup and were champions at the Asean Grand Prix.

They are making their seventh appearance at the world championship with their best position being 13th in 2010 and 2018.
