Dan Walker addresses BBC Breakfast change for him and Sally Nugent as viewers divided

Dan Walker took to social media to confirm there had been a drastic change on BBC Breakfast, as viewers were left divided after picking up on a noticeable difference on screen.

At the start of a new week, Dan once again joined forces with Sally Nugent to front the morning show, with one clear change from the same last time last week - they were allowed to sit a lot closer together.

Like hosts on other shows, Dan and Sally have been forced to keep their distance due to Covid protocol, with they and their colleagues being subject to social distancing guidelines.

However, with the final restrictions being lifted last week, when prime minisier Boris Johnson confirmed people who test positive for coronavirus no longer have to isolate by law, Dan and Sally were sitting close to each other on the famous red sofa.

The last time hosts on the show were allowed in such close proximity to each other was before the first national lockdown in 2020.

Taking to Twitter to address the change, Dan posted a picture of him and Sally on the sofa, writing: "Good morning world.Yes… we are sitting closer together for the first time in 2 years.

"I hope you’re ok this morning. We have a busy #BBCBreakfast with the very latest on the war in Ukraine and the rest of the news."

His tweet quickly gathered plenty of reaction from his large following, with one replying: "Good morning Dan lovely to see you and Sally sit beside each other bit of normality it's the little things," and a second telling the host: "Great to see this! It's been a long time. Btw, Just because every single persons tweet or message or even conversation isn't about Ukraine doesn't mean we aren't thinking about them!"

However, other BBC viewers didn't support the move, with one critic telling Dan: "And yet covid still rages. Is this sensible? Are you testing? I don't think this is the best model when scientists are clear the pandemic isn't over."

Equally unimpressed, another tweeted: "As cosy as it is, it still madness. What has changed from yesterday to today other than someone saying ‘ yes, you are allowed to’ ?"
