Former Florida football coach Dan Mullen must have savored what he saw on Saturday as Miami walloped Florida, 41-17.
Cam Ward, a transfer from Washington State, led the ‘Canes to the romp. Ward threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns as Miami put up the most points on a Florida team in its home opener in the 117-year history of the program.
Mullen is an analyst for ESPN/ABC and colleague Matt Barrie tweeted about the recent history of the Florida coaching program.
Mullen led the Gators to three New Year’s Six bowls but didn’t make it through his fourth season. He was 34-15 overall in Gainesville, 5-6 in that fourth season.

Florida has the toughest schedule in college football in 2024. Billy Napier is already on the hot seat, in many places looked at as the most likely coach to be fired. He is 11-15 after one game of his third season, having gone under .500 in the first two.
We’re sure Mullen was jabbing at the Florida athletic brass rather than Napier … right?

Billy Napier’s buyout is 85% of his remaining contract.
He’s owed $26m+.
