The Detroit Lions still don’t have an offensive coordinator hired, but that will change soon. Lions head coach Dan Campbell gave a brief update on the search to replace Anthony Lynn as the Detroit OC to reporters at the Senior Bowl in Mobile on Tuesday.
Campbell stated that the team is working hard on finding Lynn’s successor here in Mobile, where much of the NFL is in attendance for the week of practices, interviews and Saturday’s game.
“I’ve started the process this week,” Campbell said. “So I’ll have interviewed—I’m not going to give you names—but at least a couple by the time we leave Mobile.”
Campbell acknowledged that current tight ends coach Ben Johnson will be one of the people interviewed. Johnson is the presumptive favorite after taking over a bigger role when Campbell took over for Lynn during the season. Johnson is working this week as the acting offensive coordinator for the American squad in Mobile under Duce Staley, who is the head coach for the Senior Bowl week as part of a coaching development program.
GM Brad Holmes refused to go into any detail on the coordinator search in a meeting with the Detroit media on Monday.
