Newcastle United star Dan Burn was among the many capacity crowd at 02 City Hall Newcastle on Tuesday as the Magpies defender went to see another local hero, North Shields’ own Sam Fender.
Having delighted fans with his appearance at the first of Sam’s gigs at the nearby Utilita Arena in April, the big defender was hard to miss once again as he donned, a very appropriate, black and white checked shirt to see the Hypersonic Missiles star play to a much smaller, but by no means less enthusiastic crowd, just up the road.
Many fans tried to get tickets for the gig, which raised money for North East Homelessness, and those who clocked Dan, a vital player in Newcastle’s resurgence since his move from Brighton, sharply had their phones out to take a picture, without infringing on his night.

Dan and other lucky ticket holders who managed to secure their spot thanks to an online ballot, were treated to a concert that fired on all cylinders. The centre back is sure to have been brimming with goosebumps as St James’ Park icons Wor Flags once again pulled out all the stops at the City Hall to give Sam a homecoming to remember as the strains of United anthem Local Hero filled the air.
And Sam delivered a performance worthy of the loudest cheers from the Gallowgate. Starting off with Will We Talk, Sam and his band were match winners from the get go, with highlights of the emphatic performance including new single Getting Started, Dead Boys, Play God and the two in a row of Seventeen Going Under and Hypersonic Missiles, which brought things to a rip roaring crescendo.
