Dame Deborah James says she’s grateful as she enjoys cocktail in the sun

Dame Deborah James has said she is “grateful to be able enjoy another moment in the sunshine” as she shared a glamorous Instagram picture.

The former headteacher, 40, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016 and she has since kept her Instagram followers up to date with her treatments to raise awareness about the signs of bowel cancer.

In her latest update, the podcast host said she was trying to find “diamond moments in the rough” on Instagram on Friday.

The beautiful photograph showed the star enjoying a drink in the sunshine.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, she wrote: “Happy Friday! Feeling grateful to be able to enjoy another moment of sunshine on my face, and food that makes me smile!

“Just trying to find the diamond momements in the rough - but when you look hard enough you realise they can still be there!”

She continued: “Thanks as always for your amazing messages and love. Have a good one xxxx.”

Ms James announced last month doctors do not know how much longer she has to live and her active cancer treatment was stopping as she moves to hospice at home care.

She has since launched a number of initiatives in recent weeks including a clothing line and a new book to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Her Bowelbabe fund for Cancer Research has raised more than £6.6 million since its launch last month.

Her new book How To Live When You Could Be Dead documents what she has learned about having a positive mindset when faced with life’s biggest challenges.

Despite not being due to be published until August, the book shot to number one on the Amazon list through pre-orders with her royalties going towards her Bowelbabe Fund.

The podcast host followed this up by releasing a clothing line with In The Style, with 100 per cent of the profits going towards the cancer charity.

She was also recently honoured with a damehood by Prince William at her home for her “tireless campaigning” efforts.

During a recent episode of Lorraine, James shared an emotional update as she explained her cancer has taken a physical toll but mentally she was still campaigning.

“I’ve already outlived - yet again - what I was told when I was sent home from the hospital!” James said in her video clip.

“Even I’m a bit surprised but I think it’s having that sense of purpose, getting involved and continuing with the campaign.”
